Correcting Miseducation

For Christopher Colby, the founder of Antidote One, school wasn’t always the easiest. Around junior year of High School, he got to the point of having to decide on a career path. The assistance offered by his teachers was to take an aptitude test to determine what career he’d be best suited for. The result? Landscaping or janitorial work. Needless to say, neither of these sparked any sense of purpose or connection for Chris. He took a step back and assessed what classes he actually enjoyed and realized that his drafting class was the only one he liked. For Chris, school felt like a prison, so he decided to pursue a career in architecture to design schools that didn’t feel that way. He’s been a successful K-12 architect since graduating college.

After getting an inside view of the world of education, Chris saw how obsolete the education system is and how children and young adults are advised into their future career paths. There isn’t an emphasis on taking care to offer guidance to help students find their passion or pursue a career they really care about—the extent of guidance turns into a suggestion to just get a degree in anything. The problem becomes that students end up selecting a path that may not actually be the industry or field that they want work in. This leads to them ending up in a career space that doesn’t feel like the right fit and worse, that isn’t easy to transition out of.

That’s why Antidote One was started. To provide the knowledge and tools that anyone can use to move forward in their career to accomplish their goals and live a fulfilling professional life.
